Growth Mindset and Resilience

'Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.’ (Henry Ford)

What is Growth Mindset?

Growth Mindset is an idea originally discovered by Carol Dweck, a world-renowned psychologist from Stanford University.

With a fixed mindset, people believe that their intelligence or talents are fixed traits that cannot be developed or changed over time. They believe that both talents and intelligence creates success and that effort is not important in the process. At The Discovery School, we believe that this is wrong and encourage a growth mindset within all of our school community.

With a growth mindset, people believe that intelligence, abilities and talents can be developed through hard work and perseverance; that all learners are able to be successful if they are dedicated to their own development. This growth mindset learning culture embeds a love of learning within the school community and encourages everyone to be resilient, which is necessary for progress both in education and life after school!

Embedding a growth mindset is proven to create enthusiasm and efficiency in education, business, sport and relationships.
